Shape & Points Training

This practice area supports Lessons 1 - 3 of the SBU 20 week course

In ACOL Bridge, a balanced hand is one that has a distribution of cards that is roughly even, usually with no more than one or two cards difference between the length of the longest and shortest suit. A balanced hand typically has 4-3-3-3, 4-4-3-2 or 5-3-3-2 distribution.

An unbalanced hand, on the other hand, has a distribution of cards that is uneven, usually with a longer suit or suits than the others. An unbalanced hand can take many forms, such as a hand with a long major suit or a hand with a long minor suit.

Hand Points are calculated by adding the points of your honour cards, 4 for an Ace, 3 for a King, 2 for a Queen and 1 for a Jack.
